Medical Travel Insurance FAQ
Why do I need to declare my pre-existing medical conditions when I buy travel insurance?
It is important to declare your pre-existing medical conditions when you buy travel insurance so that you will be covered for emergency medical treatment abroad if you need it, as well as cancellation if you become unwell before your holiday.
If you become ill due to a pre-existing medical condition that you had not declared, you would not be covered by your travel insurance and your claim would be declined.
How do I declare my pre-existing medical conditions?
When you get a medical travel insurance quotation, whether online or by phone, you will be given the opportunity to declare all your pre-existing medical conditions.
You will need to give the name of your medical condition and then answer a short series of multiple-choice questions about each one.
Do I have to declare all my pre-existing medical conditions?
Yes, it is important that you declare all your pre-existing medical conditions when you buy medical travel insurance.
We need to get a full picture of your medical history to give you an accurate quotation and provide travel insurance cover for your holiday.
If you declare some medical conditions and not others, you could find you are not fully covered by your medical travel insurance if you need to make a claim for emergency medical expenses or cancellation. For instance, if your claim was related to a pre-existing medical condition which you had not declared on your policy, your claim could be declined or not paid in full.
How do you decide how much to charge for my medical travel insurance policy?
There are 4 main elements which determine the cost of a medical travel insurance policy. Your age, the details of your pre-existing medical conditions, where you are travelling to and for how long.
These things all contribute to the likelihood of you having to make a claim and the cost of that claim.
I am on a waiting list for treatment, can I still get medical travel insurance?
We can provide medical travel insurance for you to take a holiday whilst you are on a waiting list for treatment, provided the treatment is relating to a diagnosed existing medical condition.
We are unable to provide travel insurance cover for undiagnosed medical conditions.
Please note. If you are awaiting treatment or investigation our policy will not provide cover for cancellation or curtailment under the following circumstances:
- You receive an appointment which conflicts with your planned trip.
- You become unable to travel as a result of the planned treatment or investigation.
