Why Specialist Cruise Insurance is Essential for Your Voyage

  • When you get a quote for travel insurance with us, you will be asked ‘Are you going on a cruise?’ If you select yes, our optional cruise extension will be automatically included in your quote, providing these additional benefits:
  • Cabin confinement cover
  • Missed port departure protection
  • Itinerary change compensation
  • Unused excursions reimbursement
  • Cruise interruption cover

You can remove the extension on the Additional Cover Options page, where you’ll also see the premium. Without it, standard cover still applies, and you will be covered to go on a cruise holiday, but you won’t receive these extra benefits.

Cruise insurance tip:

Tell us all the countries you will be visiting

Most cruises, particularly ocean cruises, will stop off in more than one country.

To ensure your travel insurance is valid if you require emergency medical treatment abroad, it is important to add all the countries to your policy.

Cruise insurance FAQs

What is Cruise Travel Insurance, and why do I need it?

Cruise Travel Insurance is a specialised policy designed to cover unique situations that may arise during a cruise, such as missed port departures, cabin confinement due to illness, itinerary changes, and unused excursions. Standard travel insurance policies often do not cover these cruise-specific scenarios, making specialised cruise cover essential for comprehensive protection.

Do I need to declare pre-existing medical conditions on my cruise insurance?

Yes, it's crucial to declare all pre-existing medical conditions when purchasing your policy. This ensures you're adequately covered and prevents potential issues during a claim.

Can I get Cruise Travel Insurance if I have pre-existing medical conditions?

Yes, you can obtain cruise insurance even with pre-existing medical conditions. It's important to declare any such conditions during the application process to ensure appropriate coverage.

Is cruise travel insurance for pre-existing medical conditions more expensive?

The additional cover does cost more, however, while premiums vary, the cost of not having it, like a £50k heli-evac, is much higher.

Are there age restrictions for obtaining Cruise Travel Insurance?

Total Travel Protection offers cruise cover with no upper age limit, ensuring travellers of all ages can enjoy their cruise with peace of mind.

Does the policy cover river cruises as well as ocean cruises?

Yes, our Cruise Insurance covers both ocean and river cruises. Ensure you specify the type of cruise during the application to tailor the coverage appropriately.

What should I do if I need to make a claim?
